Granny Watson

Granny Watson

Chris Antico

Driving home from work one day last summer I heard Samuel Wagan Watson recite his poem "Wecker Road" over the radio...I was hooked...and as I sat in Sydney afternoon with a broken air-con...I could see his words and rhyme visualise in front of me...That afternoon I found a copy of his poems at my local book store and stared painting his words...over the past year I have shared my work with Samuel for feedback and we have become email mates...My work titled, "Granny Watson" is based on his poem "Mulberry Stain My Memory"....Granny's "eyes" went out scouting like kite-wings in the winds of waiting disaster; the police, the media and the alumni of Queensland's bureaucratic filth sat across the road, stirring the pot of horrors....
