Nitmiluk Gorge

Phillip Rolton

On a recent holiday, we travelled slowly along the calm waters of Nitmiluk National Park, previously known as Katherine Gorge. The sculptured rocks provided an abundance of compositions for future drawings and paintings. This spiritual place with its ever changing ancient cliff faces, displayed green vegetation against the grey and ochre rocks. The slight movement of the still waters conveniently reflected the variation of colours.
Using drawings and photographs while working on Archers paper, I combined the use of fine
ink pens with watercolour to provided more tonal depth to this realism painting.
